1000 years of history and culture...
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is one of the 16 federal states of Germany. It is among the largest in size but also one of the least settled areas in our country with only 1,7 million inhabitants. It is part of what used to be East Germany. For about 800 years we were ruled by the dukes of Mecklenburg. Thus we have a rich heritage of castles, manors, lodges and beautiful parks to see. Cities like Rostock, Wismar and Stralsund were powerful institutions during the period of the Hanseatic League. The brick gothic architecture in the old towns is now a major tourist attraction.
The wide open spaces with large fields and nature preservation areas are a must for nature lovers. You will find beautiful views and plenty of opportunity
for outdoor activities such as water sports, bicycling, hiking and equestrian activities.
