Rostock - bull and griffin
At the Stone Gate, one of the historic town gates of the 13th century, visitors spot the symbols of the city. The bull with the golden ring in his nose is the heraldic animal used by the Dukes of Mecklenburg, the rulers over Rostock. Even today this bull is part of the state flag. The griffin, half an eagle and half a lion, is a mythological animal and already in the medieval days the coat of arms of Rostock. The city's colors are blue, red and white.
